Some of you probably noticed John Benda's request for volunteers to prep, fix and clean Free Bikes 4 Kids. I persuaded my husband, John, and Lyle Koehler into signing up to join me on Thursday, December 8th from Noon to 3 p.m. and was hoping maybe a few more of you would be interested in helping with the last push to get bikes ready for kids for Christmas.
They need bike preppers, mechanics and cleaners. I signed up as a cleaner and as of 11/22, there were still 8 spots open for cleaners, 6 spots open for preppers and 5 spots open for mechanics.
It's a very simply process to sign up and looked like a fun way to spend 3 hours of your time to help kids get a bike. John Benda has a link in his post under the Forum Volunteer heading with instructions. Make sure you use Twin 24FB4k just like that with the space and lower case k. It'll ask for your name, email, phone, address, etc. and then take you to a page where you can select the date and job you'd like to do. Select Prepper, Mechanic or Cleaner on Thursday 12/8 at 12:00 p.m. They'll send you a confirmation email and you're good to go!
Hope to see some of you there! Be sure to wear something that says TCBC -- T-shirt, sweatshirt, bike jersey, tattoo, whatever so they know it's us!
Carol, I will be there on the 8th too!
Jeff and I will see you there!
I have been a prepper on the past 3 adventures to FB4Kidz. Although I know how to change a bike tire I have learned how to do it faster. If I have questions I have always been able to ask available staff or my trusty friend John Benda or other knowledgeable bike preppers.
Checking tires, kickstands, handle grips, reflectors, seats, adding lube if needed, is the prepper's job. Staff has a checklist posted and very helpful for advice when needed.
There are a lot of other days and hours available to fill if you are not able to go on the specific days John Benda has posted for the TCBC group volunteer time.
George and I will be there again on Dec. 3rd. I hope other members can fill all our group slots or consider helping on a day that may work better for you. You will never regret it and you are always much appreciated. It is a great way to give back and walk away content, knowing you have made a difference in a teen or child's life.
I’ll be there as a prepper on Dec 8. Marina Lim
I will be there too. Looking forward to it!
Looks like we'll have a great crew on the 8th! Thanks everyone! The more the merrier!
