Turn left on Washington Ave (first stoplight past the Hwy 5 overpass) Take an immediate right on the frontage road for 1/4 mile to the Valley Ridge Mall and Acapulco Restaurant on the left. Depart from Maple Grove Cycling & Fitness, 8121 Wedgewood Lane (at the corner of Grove Dr. and Wedgewood Ln, near Cub Foods; take I-94 west to the Weaver Lake Rd exit, head east to intersection with Elm Creek Blvd, turn south to Grove Dr (first left). This will be a mapless ride, following the roads and trails of Maple Grove. Possible destinations include Elm Creek Park Preserve, Fish Lake Park, the Coon Rapids Dam, and more. We will be departing from the parking lot in front of Maple Grove Cycling & Fitness. Since it is also classified as a "night" ride, working headlights and taillights will be required for all those who ride. Depending on the route, opportunities for snacks and water along the way may be slim, but there are numerous dining choices for after the ride. We will ride northwest to Rice Creek Regional Trail Park off Lexington in Shoreview. After passing through the park we will follow the new trail through the old Army Ammunition Plant. After a break at McDonald's in Mounds View we will ride the Rice Creek Regional West Trail and finally make our way back past Long Lake, Valentine Lake, Lake Johanna and Bennett Lake. Depart from French Regional Park in Plymouth.From Hwy 169 take Rockford Rd (Hwy 9) West 1 1/2 miles to park entrance on left.Go south into park to Visitors Center parking lot. This scenic ride goes South around Medicine Lake using connecting paved trails and bike-friendly roads to Hopkins and returns using LRT (crushed limestone) and Luce Line trails. 6 SAT 10:30 AM B 25-35 mi. Saturday Metro East Variety Ride-Cony Islands. Depart from Menards Parking Lot - Oakdale, MN 55128 From Interstate I694 exit at HWY 5 in Oakdlae. Head west on HWY 5 to first stop light. Turn left at Hadley. Menards is on your left. We will venture from Oakdale and ride into Battle Creek Regional Park and catch the Mississippi River Trail into Downtown St. Paul then hook onto the start of the Gateway Trail and head northeast back to Oakdale. This ride will feature both roads and trails. If the group would like there is an optional stop at the Gopher Bar downtown for one of their famous Coney Islands. It doesn't get more offbeat than this: there's a framed Stars and Bars behind the bar, an old-fashioned cash register and a wall-mounted rotary phone. Not to mention the deer antlers strung with Christmas lights (even in June) and the photo of a long-graduated Gopher hockey team clad only in jockstraps. It's all about the Coney Island: dressed with chili, mustard, neon-orange grated cheese and chopped onions, and cradled in buns grilled to crunchy perfection. This ride starts at the Bunker Hills Regional Park Activity Center (make sure you park at the Activity Center which is about 1/2 mile east of the park main entrance on CR 116) and winds through northern Anoka county and southern Isanti county. Rest stops available in Isanti, the historic and bustling town of Cambridge and in St. Francis. There is a short, 1/2-mile section of gravel of sometimes dubious quality. From Hwy 62 & Shady Oak Pkwy intersection, go South to City West Pkwy, turn left (East) then right into Strip Mall parking lot. We will park near Woody's Grille. We'll bike city roads and bike trails including a section of LRT (packed limestone) as we traverse through parts of Minnetonka, Edina, Bloomington and Eden Prairie. It's the same great ride, we will just have to ride it faster to beat sundown** Come climb every notable hill in St. Paul. We'll climb the High Bridge, Ramsey Hill and various others. 30 TUE 5:30 PM A/B 36/33/29/24 mi. THE ACAPULCO RIDE. Depart from I-694, take Hwy 36 east for 6.5 miles to Stillwater. Turn left on Washington Ave (first stoplight past the Hwy 5 overpass) Take an immediate right on the frontage road for 1/4 mile to the Valley Ridge Mall and Acapulco Restaurant on the left. Note earlier departure. Miles will decrease as daylight lessens. Unwind on the beautiful backroads of the St. Croix River Valley. Outdoor dining after at Acapulco. 30 TUE 6:00 PM N 22-25 mi. The Nordeaster (3 Bears). Depart from Northeast corner of Cub Foods lot at Silver Lake Village Center, just north of Cty Rd D/37th Ave NE on Silver Lake Rd. Not too far to drive to, not too flat and not too hilly -- JUST RIGHT. This is designed to be a social ride. Let's hang together and have fun.
