The one and only Paul Bunyan Double Century is one of Minnesota's long-standing cycling traditions, begun in 1967. It is a challenging ride of 202 miles from Anoka to Mille Lacs Lake, around it, and back again. The ride is free of charge for TCBC members and only $2.00 for non-members. Meet at Anoka Senior High School from 4:30 to 4:45 AM. We’ll begin the ride as a group at about 5 AM. Though not a race, riders will be timed to the minute (no sprints) and this time will be recorded on a ride certificate. The route is basically flat with a few small rollers. It has generally moderate traffic levels. Perhaps 10% of the route gets heavy use, but this portion has a wide shoulder. You must come prepared and trained for the distance. It’s essential to eat smart (often), drink smart (before your thirsty) and ride smart (ride the pace your accustomed to). Food and water (convenience stores) are located on average at 20-mile or so intervals and will be well marked on the ride map. I will again be driving the route, but NOT in an official sag capacity. I'll carry water, a few basic tools, and a floor pump.(maybe even some bananas!) Official lunch stop will be the Spotlight Svoboda Café in Garrison at the 100-mile point. Whether this is your first Double Century, or just one of many, WHAT you feel as you cross the finish line after 202 miles is something very special. Come ride it and discover just what "WHAT" is!
